The project

Bringing Wikimania to Esino Lario involved numerous challenges. The most difficult: how to stage a credible project in an efficient and professional manner.

Wikimania is usually held in large cities with the right facilities and services to cater for conferences numbering one or two thousand delegates. Esino, on the other hand, is a small mountain village, poorly connected and devoid of any infrastructure for major conferences. In addition, it lacks sufficient accommodation for visitors. As if that weren’t enough, both its optical and its electricity lines needed boosting.
